Sport and Physical Activities

We understand the importance of physical education in developing a healthy lifestyle and fostering teamwork and discipline. Various sporting programs within the school provide students with an opportunity to employ and reinforce skills and concepts developed in Physical Education, in a more competitive but still supportive environment.

Interschool Sport Competition

During Term 2 and 3, students in Years 5 and 6 participate in an intraschool sports competition.  They compete in two of six different sports representing and playing for their sports house.  As well as learning some new skills, students build a sense of camaraderie and identity.  The competition gives the children the opportunity to interact and identify with other students and teachers in a fun and competitive sports roster. Points from the competition goes towards our House Cup which is presented to the house with the greatest total points from all our four carnivals.

Sporting Carnivals

St Bernardine's sporting carnivals include Cross Country (P-6), Junior and Senior Athletics (P-2 and 3-6) and Swimming Carnivals (Years 3-6).  At these carnivals, students are selected to compete at competitions within the Southern Scorpions District and in the Catholic Zone Carnivals.

Students from Year 3-6 are also invited to represent our school and participate in numerous sporting programs and competitions throughout the year. These include our school Touch Football Program, Qld Cup (Netball), AFL Primary Cup and BCE Rugby 7's.

Students in Year 5 and 6 can be selected at school level to participate in Southern Scorpions District trials in various sports including AFL, Cricket, Hockey, Netball, Rugby League, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, and Touch Football. We are very proud that many of our students have been selected to compete at Regional, State and National levels.

Run Club

We offer a Run Club for students from Prep to Year 6 every Friday morning before school. This program encourages children to develop their running skills, build endurance, and enjoy the benefits of regular physical exercise. The Run Club is a fantastic way for students to start their day with energy and enthusiasm, fostering a sense of community and a love for fitness.

Yoga

In addition to our wide array of sports programs, we offer lunchtime yoga sessions for our students. These sessions are designed to provide a relaxing and rejuvenating break in the middle of the day. Yoga helps students enhance their flexibility, strength, and focus, while also promoting mindfulness and stress relief. The practice of yoga supports physical well-being and mental clarity, fostering a holistic approach to health. Our yoga classes are inclusive and suitable for all skill levels, ensuring that everyone can participate and benefit from this calming activity. Joining our lunchtime yoga sessions allows students to unwind, recharge, and return to their studies with renewed energy and concentration.
