Religious Education Program
At St Bernardine’s, Religious Education supports students to learn about the Catholic faith and to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Religious Education has two connected dimensions:
• Learning about religion through classroom teaching and learning
• Living our faith through prayer, liturgy, Eucharist, service and community experiences
Together, these dimensions help students grow in faith, develop a relationship with Jesus and understand how they can make a positive difference in the world.
Our Religious Education Program provides engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences from Prep to Year 6. Students are encouraged to ask questions, explore Scripture, share their ideas and connect their learning with their lives and the world around them.
Learning is organised across four connected areas:
• Sacred Texts
• Beliefs
• Church
• Christian Life
Teachers use inquiry learning to help students become confident, creative and informed learners. Learning experiences are planned to meet the needs of all students.
Scope and Sequence
Our Religious Education Scope and Sequence outlines what students will learn at each year level. It supports a consistent and connected approach to Religious Education from Prep to Year 6.
For each year level, the Scope and Sequence identifies:
• the Achievement Standard
• key knowledge and understanding
• opportunities for deeper learning
• curriculum content
• core and complementary Scripture texts
• prayers to be explicitly taught
• connections with the Religious Life of the School
Teachers use a range of effective teaching strategies to make Religious Education engaging, inclusive and accessible for every student.
