PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Various sporting programs within the school provide students with an opportunity to employ and reinforce skills and concepts developed in the Physical Education program, in a more competitive but still supportive environment.

One afternoon time slot per week in Term 2 is allocated for students from Year 3-6 to participate in our Winter House Sports Carnival. Students compete in one of four different sports representing and playing for their house. As well as learning some new skills, students build a sense of camaraderie and identity. The competition gives the children the opportunity to interact and identify with other students and teachers in a fun and competitive sports roster. Points from the competition goes towards our House Cup which is presented to the house with the greatest total points from all our four carnivals.

St Bernardine's other carnivals include our annual Cross Country (P-6), Athletics (P-6) and Swimming Carnivals (Years 2-6). At these carnivals, students are selected to compete at competitions within the Southern Scorpions District and in the Catholic Zone 2 Carnivals. Students who are selected for these teams are provided with the opportunity to train in the lead up to these events. Students who are selected in district teams, also continue to train with coaches at school to prepare for regional competitions.

Students at St Bernardine's are also given the opportunity to participate in inter school sport Gala Days with a variety of local Catholic Schools. These programs primary involve Year 5 & 6 students and have associated training sessions, usually in Term 3.

Students from Year 3-6 are also invited to represent our school and participate in numerous sporting programs and competitions throughout the year. These include our school Touch Football Program, Queensland Futsal titles, Qld Cup (Netball), AFL Primary Cup, BCE Rugby 7's, Volleyball Primary Cup and the Tennis Queensland Primary Cup.

Students in Year 5 and 6 can be selected at school level to participate in Southern Scorpions District trials in various sports including AFL, Cricket, Hockey, Netball, Rugby League, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, and Touch Football. We are very proud that many of our students have been selected to compete at Regional, State and National levels.

Throughout the year there are also numerous lunch time sports rosters offered to students, as well as our Years 3-6 athletics trials and practice in the lead up to our senior athletics carnival.
